Christian response to tragedy and fear
~Franklin Graham: “We need to pray for our law enforcement & encourage them. The Bible says, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers…’ This is the calling many of them have answered with their lives.”
~Praying for everyone facing daily concerns about the effects of this virus. Lord, we pray for your protection and guidance and provision. Help us to keep our hearts and minds on you Lord. Help us to walk closely with you. Forgive us when we stray from that path. Lord, you understand our pain. You walked this earth, you faced temptation, you suffered. You died. But, you rose again just as the Bible promised. Your word says if we walk in the light as you are is in the light, we will have fellowship with one another and your blood will cleanse us from all sin. Lord, help us to walk closely with You today and point others to you. In your holy name, Amen.
~I have moments of fear and anxiety several times a day. It’s usually when I turn on the news to catch up on what’s happening. And, I realize that I’ve taken my focus off of God. If you’re doing this, too, take comfort in what the Bible says in Psalms: “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” (Psalm 34:4-5)
~We’re all trying to stay upbeat despite our circumstances, but several times a day – especially when the news comes – we let anxiety and full-on panic set in, don’t we? Well, take comfort in this verse: “Stand firm in the faith, knowing your brothers and sisters throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering and, after we have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you...will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:9.)
~If you're feeling discouraged about the economy or your own wallet, this verse is a great reminder: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:34) Remember that God is with you through this and he isn’t going anywhere!
~Do people know you’re a believer in Jesus Christ? What impact are you making to those who don’t believe? Consider this: in Acts, Paul and Silas were in prison and around midnight they began praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Shine your light, especially in these dark times.
~Do you find yourself forgetting to give your worries to God? It's easy to do, but, remember that our hope is in God. He is alive and living in us! Be intentional about clinging to Christ and praising his name no matter what. Shine his light!
~When you pray, ask for things that will lead us closer to God. Father, in Jesus powerful name, we ask for understanding during this crisis, for peace to calm our fears, for strength to prevail and for your name to be praised.
~"The secure life is not the one that has no problems. The secure life is the one that is grounded on God, founded on God, tethered to God." - A great reminder from Nancy Lee Demoss and Revive Our Hearts.
~Encouragement today from Max Lucado: "Choose to be the person who says, "Yes, these time are tough, but God is tougher. Yes, this challenge is great, but our God is greater. Yes, these questions are many, but our God is wise. We aren't facing anything He hasn't faced."
~Max Lucado offers some encouragement on the fear that grips us in uncertain times. “Choose prayer over panic.” And, remember Psalm 91: 4-6: “[God] will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.”
